April is Pet First Aid Awareness Month!
April 1st through April 30th is the 12th annual Pet First Aid Awareness
Month. Sponsored by PetTech, (www.pettech.net) Pet First Aid Awareness Month emphasizes the importance of being a caring, loving and responsible pet owner and pet care professional through education and training. This year’s theme is “Pets and People Staying Healthy Together” – increasing the quality and quantity of our furry friends’ lives.
Pet First Aid Awareness Month main focus is the importance of learning the necessary skills of CPR and first aid care for our furry friends. Pet first aid is the immediate care administered to an injured or suddenly taken ill animal. It covers immediate care in the home to stabilize your pet and veterinarian care when necessary. Possessing the knowledge, skills and techniques of pet first aid can mean the difference between life and death for your pet; between temporary disability or permanent injury. Pet first aid not only can save your pet, it can save you money in expensive veterinarian bills.
Pet First Aid and CPR training is available to all pet care professionals
and pet owners through the American Red Cross, Knoxville Chapter. The class is taught at the Young-Williams Animal Center. To register online for the next class, visit http://www.knoxarc.org.

Always remember that any first aid administered to your pet should be followed by immediate veterinary care. First aid care is not a substitute for veterinary care, but it may save your pet’s life until it receives veterinary treatment.
